The Weekend ~ 6/28/2013 ~Basic Croquis

Last Friday I shared my rant on some men’s view of height to which a fellow writer replied with a  quote by Johnny Depp in Don Juan DeMarco:

“One must see beyond what is visible to the eye…When I say that all my woman are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are… glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect… because I am not limited by my eyesight… I search out the beauty that lies within until it overwhelms everything else.”

So I decide that next time I am confronted with such ignorance I plan to say “Oh, I see your limited by you’re eyesight. That’s a shame.” This rebut can and should be liberally applied.

That goes for you too Gals. If the quote above show anything we as women need to quit judging ourselves by the skin we wear. Let your beauty radiate.

So as promised I have finished new basic croquis templates. My Wacom Tablet decided now would be the time to go on the fritz. i.e. quit working all together. So these babies are hand drawn. I had promised…. so there was no letting you down for the umpteenth time.

After posting my curvaceous croquis I got numerous requests for a back view. And Croquis Part II still remains my most read blog post. Of course revisit it if you want to know how to draw your own 10 head fashion figure. Recently Justine Limpusparish created a fabulous template showing you how to pivot your fashion figure. This will help you vary poses on the basics. And give you much more flexibility in your designs.

So I thought it only fitting that curvaceous be the first of my new and improved Basics revealed, perfect for all your plus size or curvy fashion designs. I’ve elongated her, fashion style, but this lady is still curvaceously delicious. Most people do not realize the average woman in the North America wears a size 14 and the average height is 5′ 4″. So most women would be considered plus size. That certainly is not reflected in our magazine images. However this week Canada’s first plus size magazine was released. Check out Dare– Thanks to Diana Di Poce. So without further ado here’s Curvaceous.

I have also redone the Basic Male and Female croquis I posted earlier. Hope you get good use of them. Please share your creations. I would love to see what you design.

This will no doubt keep you busy over the weekend. See you next week on the blog!

The Weekend ~ 6/21/13 ~ Amazonian Warrior Cry

So I promise more croquis next week. I know… I know ….you have heard it all before.

So today I have a rant of sorts. Recently some men in my life (who shall remain anonymous) informed me in casual swagger that they believed tall women should diminish their height and short women should accentuate theirs.

Say What?!!

Did I hear them right? This is the polite version of what actually ran through my head.

Now a little bit of background:
I am 6’ 1”, was 5’ 11” in 8th grade. I love being tall. I would be taller if I could be.

I can’t wear high heels anymore per doctors’ orders (back surgery). I love high heels (for very short spurts). Because let’s be honest Ladies they are painful contraptions. And I do not subscribe to the beauty is pain theory. Beauty is all about being comfortable in your skin and letting your true self shine through. Or so I preach.

I was frustrated growing up by the fact that, to me, it seemed that tall men loved little ladies. So I decided if I ruled the world, which thankfully for all of you I don’t, there would be a height range regulation set for dating. Simply put, there could be no more than a 6” height difference between men and women. So guys if your 6’ 3” you cannot date a woman shorter than 5’ 9”. I always thought this was more than fair.

Now my friends and roommates at 5’ 4” (especially K who managed the football team) would protest. But that means they get men as tall as 5’ 10” without breaking any laws. And if I learned anything as a model; men lie about their height. Most say 6ft. They mean 5’ 10”. Women lie too so don’t get too indignant. And Yes, I know you can’t control who you’re attracted to so this theory is not logical by any means but it was my silent decree in my imaginary world.

So with all that said. I was pissed. Did these Men that I respect just single handedly diminish all women? At least those of us that are above or below average height. And since the average woman is 5’ 4” I was offended for us all.

As if our beauty had to be changed in order for them to be men, for us to be feminine. The Goldilocks’ syndrome- Did we fall into their concept of just right? I wanted to march in the next day wearing 6” platforms but this was of course childish and forbidden.

So I am doing the next best thing. Posting a rant on my blog and a picture I drew of my best kick ass high heel.

So Take that!

Until next week……. walk with your heads tall! (and forever after)

The Weekend ~ 4/26/13 ~ Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman
This week has proven to be another one for the books. Lots of news in my personal life…. some good…. some bad. Can’t say that it means things are balanced out. The scale is still tipped downward and has been for some time.

I drew Wonder Woman this week for inspiration. I figured, if I created her, threw her out into the Cloud, I might begin to feel more like her; channel her strength in a way. You know beauty, brains and brawn. Seriously who wouldn’t want to be bulletproof these days, be able to tell when anyone is telling the truth, or occasionally be invisible. And if you don’t know how she accomplishes all of that then shame on you… have homework to do.

My Wonder Woman is part of a series of motorcycle gear I envisioned years ago inspired by superheroes. Because truly motorcycle racers nearly are superheroes. That or just a little crazy. I wish I had made the base of her helmet blue but I can play around with that later.

I also finally managed to list some of my photographs for sale on my Etsy store so if you have time PLEASE check them out. Let me know what you think! And of course, if your interested, buy something.

Hope you enjoy your weekend. Until then here’s a…….
