Minerva’s Kiss ~ Poem & Tribute to the Art of Spoken Word

Minerva’s Kiss

I met my new love.
Lost in all the yesterdays of words
I have heard and spoken again.
Lost inside thesis brought to life.
Awakened anew
Bursting forth
Flush from solitude.
Rebirthed from the aches that lay naked
inside the echoes of your absence.
Words emptied and free
pouring forth the battles of gladiators
with no expectations of what is next.
Here am I  Words reminding me
“questions are the only answers we need.”

My new love
Found in the breaths between.
The words whispered of doing it wrong.
Found in the lessons taught to your daughter
letting me know I can.
Assuring me I will.
That you want to know all of what makes me, ME.

My new love
An old love once more
remembered,
refreshed,
renewed.
Thank you.
Awash in your words
walking through Paris in the Rain.
Your Cadence.
This, this is my love letter to you.
Spoken of words,
my words intimate,
in murmurs sweet
kissed in the shadows of the Louvre

Footnote: This poem is an homage to the art form of spoken word poetry and some of my favorite pieces (all links above). Make sure to check out these incredible wordsmiths and performers: Anis Mojgani, Alysia Harris, Sarah Kay. Todays Tuesday Talent Tribute.

I believe poetry has the ability to blend creativity and logic into articulated expression. Or as Robert Frost so aptly wrote, a poem “begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It is never a thought to begin with.”

Truly Talented

Every so often Everyday I fall upon a new artist that I am in awe of. Whose raw talent or perhaps very cultivated talent is stunning. Here are a few of the latest.

The Pen & Ink of Si Scott and his Resonate Series. It definitely resonated with me.

Next up is the incredibly talented Johan Scherft. I have shown you some paper craft artist before but if you ask me….this takes it up another notch.

Finally but surely not least is Kumi Yamashita and her constellation series. Over months she weaves a single unbroken thread over galvanized nails to create these works of art.

Storyboard-NYFA Student Fashion Show

NYFA 2013 storyboard

Between visiting, critiquing and the fact that my camera was in video mode in my lap, unbeknownst to me, for long periods of time I only ended up with a few shots from the show. So I decided the best thing to do was make a storyboard. Hopefully some of the students will share their photos going forward. There is so much more to see. It was a great show.

Photographer~ Anka Zhuravleva

I came across Anka Zhuravleva’s work on Chase Jarvis’s blog. He had one of her images from her distorted reality series under Inspiration which linked to her flickr photostream. It was a feast for the senses.

I made my way from there to her website only to discover she paints and draws as well.

Good God I was struck smack between the eyes. I have an artist crush. No doubt she falls under inspiration. I think I’m in love. What do you think?
