I set the Table
Plated with old crusted wounds
Salted from my youth
Family recipes repeated
Dishes scored leaving scars raw

This began as a Haiku and then grew into a Tanka. My first attempt with the form. As I read traditional tanka would have been written as one line. Perhaps like this…(I think)
I set the table plates with old crusted wounds salted from youth – family recipes repeated dishes scored leaving scars raw.

I am not a poet, but reading things like this, I’m fascinated! I loved this piece 🙂
Ooh Mandy that is a fabulous comment! (At least for me). I love poetry but want what I write to be accessible to others. So to know that you relate, is golden.
Oh goodness. I’m not sure what you have that resonates with me, but I’ve just read a number of your NANO pieces and am a little in awe. I want to spend more time looking at all the other amazing things–you’re multi-talented 🙂
Thanks Mandy. I’ma bit of a renaissance woman- read that as scattered artist.
Very good 🙂
Thanks Rich
