San Gréal ~ #fridayfictioneers ~ 2/28

I spent my morning in the dentist chair; the usual scolding over the shrill of the pick- flossing habits, night guard usage and warnings of a crowned future. All I could think “Ugh! I don’t have time for this. I need to write”.

Didn’t they understand its Fictioneer’s Time- “One for all and all for one” musketeer style. Inspiration comes at the most inopportune moments.  So I flew from the chair grabbed my notepad, scratched a few words and tore across town to get to the office and a computer.

Here’s my offering.

San Gréal

Tractors make terrible getaway cars. Normally.

“What day’s the hay delivered to the stables?”

“Dimanche.”

“But it’s Tuesday” Philip pondered. Perhaps that’s why they’re exiting the gate teaming with bales. “Must be a mistake…”

Entering the grand hall he immediately noticed the missing portrait of Père Dumas. “ Mon Dieu the chalice” he took off running for the gallery.

Geneviève smiled and turned towards the kitchen knowing she was the only thing of value left.  Seventeen centuries of witchcraft flowed through her sang réal.  Once upon a time, not so long ago, he’d been a frog.

“Where’s that locator spell!”

P.S. Please make sure to read the others.

Thanks Rochelle as always for graciously hosting the prompt for our 100 words novella . This week’s image by Sandra Cook is tugging upon a deeper wanderlust.  Temptation’s temptation.

    • Castles are difficult to update. The wiring is all wrong, the windows easily opened and the stones wall simple to scale. It does make for trouble. That is as long as you can swim the moat of alligators first.

    • Thanks Helena. I love the twist too. I’m really glad I didn’t write the gibberish that first came to mind at 2am involving the champagne coupe and corsets. It was obvious I needed sleep.

  2. I wasn’t at the dentist, but I woke up last night, couldn’t go back to sleep and kept popping back up to do some writing. Sigh.

Just a couple little things: ““But its Tuesday”–“it’s” and “why their exiting”–“they’re.” Blame it on dental trauma!! 🙂

    • She is very crafty, years of experience and with practice come perfection.

I was trying to come up with some witty time warp continuum thing to explain the Friday fiction on Wednesday. In reality near about ever Weds. I wish it were Fri. Does that count? Really it is that we have till Friday to write it. But most of simply jump write in.

  3. How’s this for humor: I read the intro, and thought it was a story! Ha! It was so interesting… and then I realized you had actually been at the dentist’s! :-p The real story was much yummier! A mystery, a fantasy, a love story… this one demands that you write more! Love it, Dana!

    • Thanks Amy. A client of mine had their house robbed in a gated neighborhood. The thieves got out without being noticed by driving stealing their own car from the garage. When I saw the tractor I thought hmmmm might work here as well.
